WhatsApp Link Generator
Create a wa.me click-to-chat link from a phone number and an optional pre-filled message. The number is cleaned and the text is encoded for you.
Full number in international format, starting with the country code (for example 90 for Turkey, 1 for US/Canada, 49 for Germany). Spaces, dashes and brackets are removed automatically. Leave empty to create a link that only carries a message.
Appears in the chat box when the link is opened. Up to 2000 characters.
How it works
Enter the phone number with its country code, optionally write a message, and the link appears as you type. The copy button puts it on your clipboard. Everything happens in your browser: the number and the message are not uploaded, and the tool never sends a message or contacts WhatsApp.
The link has one of three shapes, taken from WhatsApp's "How to use click to chat" help page:
https://wa.me/<number>opens a chat with that number.https://wa.me/<number>?text=<urlencodedtext>does the same and puts the text in the chat box.https://wa.me/?text=<urlencodedtext>carries only a message. WhatsApp then shows a list of contacts to send it to.
The number
WhatsApp wants the full number in international format: country code first, no zeroes, brackets or dashes (its own "don't use" example also contains a plus sign). The tool takes whatever you typed and cleans it in this order:
- Spaces, dots, dashes, slashes and brackets are removed, then one leading
+. - What remains must be digits only. Anything else, including letters or a
+in the middle, is an error. - A leading
00(the international call prefix) is removed with a warning. - Any further leading zeros are removed with a warning, because a number that still starts with zero is almost certainly in national format.
- The result must have 7 to 15 digits. Fifteen is the E.164 maximum; seven is only a practical lower bound, not a specification value.
The tool never guesses a country code. It cannot, since 5321234567 could belong to any country.
The message
The text is kept exactly as typed, except that Windows line endings become plain line breaks. It is then percent-encoded with the standard URL-component rules, which is why the result is readable only as a link, not as the sentence you wrote.

Things to watch for
- The number needs an active WhatsApp account. The tool cannot check this. A well-formed link to a number without an account will not give you a working chat.
- Leading zero, 00 and + are all wrong inside the link. They are how people write numbers on paper or dial them; the link wants the country code immediately after
wa.me/. The tool cleans these, but a cleaned national number without a country code is still the wrong number. - An extra zero after the country code is not detected. Numbers are sometimes printed as +90 0532 or +49 (0)151. Neither form is caught, as explained in the FAQ. Check the digits against the number you actually mean.
- Encoding matters for
&,#and?. Unencoded, these characters end or split the text part of the URL, so everything after them would be lost. The tool encodes them, which is the reason to build the link here rather than by hand. - Line breaks need
%0A. Pressing Enter in the message box produces one. - Keep messages short. The tool accepts up to 2,000 characters, which is our own conservative limit and not a WhatsApp rule. A warning appears when the finished link is longer than 2,000 characters, because some apps and services may cut or reject very long links. Non-ASCII letters and emoji take several encoded bytes each, so they lengthen the link quickly.
- A link with a number in it is personal data. If the number belongs to a private person, such as a customer, do not post the link in public places. It is stored nowhere by this tool, but anyone who has the link has the number.
- No group invite links. This tool builds links to a number or a message, nothing else.
- Test before you publish. Open the link on a phone and, if your audience uses it, on WhatsApp Web, and confirm that the right chat opens and the text looks as intended.
