Severance Pay Calculator (Türkiye)
From your start and end dates and your last gross wage, calculate gross and net Turkish severance pay (kıdem tazminatı), including the 2026 severance ceiling.
Calculated with Türkiye 2026 rules (Labour Law No. 1475, article 14). The ceiling is set by the date the employment contract ended.
Your last monthly gross wage, including regular benefits that can be valued in money (such as meals or transport).
Both the first and the last day worked are counted.
The tool does not decide whether you are entitled; the reason you left decides that. It only does the statutory calculation, up to the ceiling. The result has no social security premium or income tax; only stamp tax is deducted.
How it works
Enter your gross monthly pay for severance purposes, your start date and your end date (the last day you worked). The calculator finds your length of service, applies the 2026 ceiling and shows the gross severance pay, the stamp tax and the net amount. The legal basis is article 14 of Law no. 1475; article 120 of the Labour Law no. 4857 left that article in force.
pay used = lower of (gross pay for severance, ceiling of the period)
gross severance = pay used × (years + months/12 + days/365)
stamp tax = gross severance × 0.00759
net severance = gross severance − stamp tax
The article provides 30 days of pay for each full year of service. Thirty days of pay means one month's pay, so five years of service give five months of pay. Leftover time is added proportionally. The calculator counts a month as 1/12 of a year and a day as 1/365. That is a common practice, not a formula written in the law.
The right has to arise. As a rule you need at least one year with the same employer and an exit reason that gives the right. The employer ending the contract, an employee leaving for a reason the law lists as justified, retirement, military service, death and a woman leaving within one year of marriage are among them; resigning without a justified reason does not give the right. The tool does not decide this. If there is a dispute, a court or the competent institution decides. The calculator only answers the hypothetical question "if the right arose, what would the amount be?".
Gross pay for severance purposes. The pay used is not just the base salary. Regular benefits that can be measured in money, such as regular meal and transport allowances, are added. Overtime pay, pay for annual leave and one-off bonuses are not. The share of a regular annual bonus is debated, so the input is an amount you determine rather than a ready-made total.
The ceiling. Unless the contract says otherwise, severance for one year cannot exceed the highest civil-servant retirement bonus. According to Treasury and Finance Ministry circulars the 2026 ceilings are:
- 1 January to 30 June 2026: 64,948.77 TRY
- 1 July to 31 December 2026: 73,729.87 TRY
The ceiling is chosen by your end date, not the payment date. If your pay is below the ceiling, your own pay is used. If the ceiling applies, the result card says so and names the period.
Tax. No income tax or social security premium is withheld from severance pay. Only stamp tax of 0.759% is taken on the gross amount.
Dates. The calculator counts both the start day and the end day: 1 March 2025 to 28 February 2026 is exactly one year. That is a convention of the tool, not a rule written in the law. If the service is under one year the tool shows no amount. Only contracts that ended in 2026 are calculated; the ceilings of other years are not in the tool, so it says so for those dates.
Examples
Below the ceiling. Gross pay 40,000.00 TRY, service from 2 July 2020 to 1 January 2026 (5 years 6 months). The pay is below the 64,948.77 TRY ceiling, so your own pay is used. Gross severance is 40,000 × 5.5 = 220,000.00 TRY, stamp tax 1,669.80 TRY, net 218,330.20 TRY.
The ceiling applies (second half of the year). Gross pay 100,000.00 TRY, service from 15 August 2016 to 14 August 2026 (exactly 10 years). The contract ended between July and December, so the ceiling is 73,729.87 TRY. Gross severance is 737,298.70 TRY, stamp tax 5,596.10 TRY, net 731,702.60 TRY.
The same case, first half. The same pay and service, but from 10 March 2016 to 9 March 2026. Now the ceiling is 64,948.77 TRY. Gross severance is 649,487.70 TRY, stamp tax 4,929.61 TRY, net 644,558.09 TRY. The gross difference between the two examples is 737,298.70 − 649,487.70 = 87,811.00 TRY, so for people above the ceiling the half-year in which employment ends matters a lot.
Months and days count. Gross pay 30,000.00 TRY, service from 15 March 2021 to 19 May 2026 (5 years 2 months 5 days). The years give 150,000.00 TRY, the 2 months 5,000.00 TRY and the 5 days about 410.96 TRY. Gross severance is 155,410.96 TRY, stamp tax 1,179.57 TRY, net 154,231.39 TRY.
To check the years, months and days between two dates yourself, use the date difference calculator. Because this tool counts the end day too, results can differ by a day.
Things to keep in mind
- The result is an estimate. It is for information and is not legal or financial advice; the real amount may differ. For a serious dispute, ask a lawyer or the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
- The scope is narrow. The tool applies the statutory calculation of article 14 of Law no. 1475 and finds the amount below or capped at the ceiling. Contractual payments above the ceiling, mutual-termination agreements, public-sector workers and people under special laws such as the Press Labour Law or the Maritime Labour Law are outside it.
- Gross pay for severance is your own input. Which items count is often debated. Check the regular items on your payslip and your contract.
- Suspended periods are assessed separately. The tool does not know whether periods such as unpaid leave count toward service; it counts all days between the two dates you enter.
- Notice pay is a separate right. It arises when the notice period is not observed and is not calculated here.
- The ceiling is updated on 1 January and 1 July. The data is for 2026. Check the Ministry of Treasury and Finance announcements for the current amount and mevzuat.gov.tr for the legislation.
- Everything runs in your browser. The pay and dates you enter are not sent to a server.
To see what your pay is after deductions month by month, use the take-home pay calculator, and for the notice period and notice pay the notice period calculator. To find the difference between two amounts as a percentage, use the percentage calculator.
